Site Preparation

Good site preparation sets the stage for successful prairie and tree plantings. I use herbicide to reduce or eliminate existing competition before seed or seedlings go in the ground, following NRCS guidelines for timing, products, and application methods. The goal is to give your new prairie or trees a clean, healthy start without over-treating the land.

For smaller sites, up to about an acre, non-chemical methods can also work well. Depending on your goals and the current vegetation, that might mean repeated mowing, tarping, sod removal or other light-touch approaches to weaken existing plants before planting. Together we can choose a preparation plan—chemical, non-chemical, or a mix—that fits your comfort level and gives your new prairie or trees the best chance to establish, in line with NRCS recommendations where they apply.

Price Range: $40-250 per acre
